I’ve been using the power of my voice my entire life. From childhood showing off at the dinner table, to speaking, entertaining, inspiring, informing and coaching throughout my career. I’ve carved out a distinct yet varied path and created opportunities when none existed.

About Me

As one of the UK’s few female national radio DJs in the 90s, I forged a path in male-dominated media with passion, determination, my signature playfulness and unmistakable voice. I built a successful media career when women were rarely handed the mic, and I’ve been one of the UK’s top voiceover artists for nearly 30 years.

TODAY

I’m a broadcaster, keynote speaker, event host, film critic, voiceover artist, coach, women’s empowerment champion and expert in cultural gender inequalities.

BOOK A CALL

I’ve never waited for permission to speak.

As the fifth of six children, I learned early how to fight for attention (and the last chocolate biscuit). I went on to host shows for many of the UK’s biggest broadcasters (BBC Radio 1, Virgin Radio, Radio Luxembourg, LBC and Talk Radio) and interviewed massive film stars on ITV’s The Little Picture Show including Tom Hanks, Al Pacino and J-Lo. I blazed a trail for women in broadcasting and I’ve never shied away from a challenge.

AGED 24…

…tired of sniffy movie reviews from the same old white male voices, I became a film critic.  But being an outsider as a young woman with feisty opinions, I was quickly frustrated by unspoken rules around who has authority as a critic, and who doesn’t.

This experience prompted my passion for equality and representation, and saw me achieve a first-class BSc in Psychology with the Open University in my 40s, and then an MSc in Cultural Inequalities from the London School of Economics.

My subsequent training…

…as a Women’s Centred Transformational coach supported me to overcome the anxiety and panic attacks that pained me for decades.

Now I see how it – plus my major midlife health challenges and having to constantly prove myself in the toxic media environment of the 90s - give my work and voice its depth, and my message its resonance: I know how we can struggle with self-confidence even whilst appearing successful.

AFTER PERFORMING…

…at the 1999 Edinburgh festival (talked into it by an excitable friend!) I then spent a couple of years as a stand-up comic on the London circuit. Comedians were getting all the tasty TV gigs, so I figured it would make me, also, ‘officially’ funny. Sure enough, stand-up landed me several new TV jobs, including co-hosting a series with Prince Edward for ITV.  How’s that for ROI!?

TODAY…

…I bring my media expertise, academic credentials, life experience and professional training to my keynote speaking, podcasting and coaching.

My multi-award nominated podcast Open to Criticism explores the cultural narratives that shape us – and how marginalised voices can better tell their own stories. My keynotes harness insightful and engaging cultural references to inspire others into shaking off limiting social norms.

And as a Confidence Coach…

…I’m passionate about supporting others to break old patterns and step fully into lives that they, too, truly desire. I provide structured support - for high achievers and quiet rebels alike – with my evidence based coaching programmes.  Whether empowering women into the confidence to achieve meaningful midlife reinvention or public speaking success, I’m a fierce champion with the skills – and insights from my own personal transformation - to guide women to the shifts and rewards they struggle to attain alone.

MY STORY…

…is one of constant evolution. Not because I had to change, but because I’ve always been driven to create change where I perceive a need. I remain eternally curious about what’s possible.  Whether on stage, on air, coaching or facilitating powerful group work or Q&As, my mission remains the same: to challenge rules, champion true equality, and empower those who’ve been side lined for too long.
